The Devil

thedevilcover

The Devil is an improvised work of solo piano performed on the past piano of the 1067 Vancouver Jazz Collective, retuned to 15 tones per octave. This tuning system has also been called 15edo or 15-ed2, signifying 15 equal divisions of the octave.

This album is the acceptance of the beauty and utility of imperfection, and the self-recognition of the darkside of the self we prefer to ignore or project onto other things instead of take responsibility.

This tuning has big fifths and small fourths and embodies the sound of the 7th harmonic. The piano has been detuned so the timbre becomes quite dynamic as the register changed.
