Sound meditation using over 40 hachiku bamboo pipes in Togatta, Japan
This piece explores breath patterns, repetition, meditation, and the pitch spectrum. The bamboo pipes are tuned by ear, focusing on different types of resonances: pure harmonies (or just intonation), small semitones that maximize beating, and clashing harmonies. The piece explores both the pure tone of the bamboo, as well as a rough breath technique inspired by the shakuhachi muraiki ムライキ 斑息, which makes the tone filled with inharmonic partials.
